About

BeaHue Studio is the creative practice of artist and scientist, Betty Liu, based in Los Angeles, California. Working across watercolor, ink, collage and handmade paper, her work draws on years spent in the laboratory studying cancer cells and neurons, observing their intricate processes of growth, communication and repair.

Inspired by biological structures and organic forms, Betty explores the relationships between the microscopic and macroscopic worlds and how we perceive and interact with the spaces within and around us.

Through color, fluid gestures and spontaneous mark-making, she creates imagined landscapes and abstract forms that shift between the familiar and the unexpected. Her work embraces the unpredictable nature of her materials, allowing colors to bleed, shapes to emerge and compositions to evolve through experimentation and play.
